| | F2: Cultivating Normality
II) The Route to
F2=future based on the past work
Normal Science
is paved by content-free (beyond arguing) paradigms and
its associated, personally-neutral (objective) ways of scientific inquiry based on the c3-collective EXPERIENCE
with the subject
under consideration.
Normal science "means research firmly based upon one or more past scientific achievements,
achievements that
some particular scientific community acknowledges for a time as supplying the foundation for its further
practice"
. These
achievements must be sufficiently unprecedented to attract an enduring group of adherents away from
competing modes of
scientific activity and
sufficiently c3-open-ended to leave all sorts of problems
for the redefined group of practitioners (and their
students)
to c3-resolve
. These achievements can then be called paradigms; students must study them in order to become members
of
the particular scientific community in which they will later practice accordingly COMPETING with
each other for c3-reputation in
cultivating normality
.
